North Texans travel to Houston to help with historic flooding

NORTH TEXAS — Parts of Southeast Texas are experiencing flooding worse than Hurricane Harvey, with hundreds of homes still underwater.

That means thousands of Texans need a helping hand. Fortunately, Texans on a Mission are ready to lend a helping hand in every disaster, and they’re heading to Houston armed with power, showers and hope.

Wendell Romans is one of those volunteers and he often finds himself on the road these days.

“I go there a lot. Last year I went 100 days from home,” he said.

“We are in an area that is reaching flood levels higher than Hurricane Harvey,” said John Hall, a spokesman for Texans on Mission.

He talks about areas like Conroe, Texas, where people found themselves stranded on roofs as water flooded their homes.

Soon, these volunteers will be joined by hundreds of others from across the state with one goal: to help.

“They don’t know where to start, we help them. We know what to do, we’ve been doing this for over 50 years,” Hall said.

Volunteers like Romans find joy in helping people get their lives back.

“We just have to love them and hug them and pray with them, and then we do the work,” he said.
