Boy dead, another injured after being hit by vehicle while cycling home from local candy store – WPXI

BUFFALO TOWNSHIP, Pa. — One child is dead and another is injured after being struck by a vehicle while riding his bicycle in Butler County Friday evening.

Butler County 911 said crews were called to Cole Road in Buffalo Township at 6:50 p.m.

Buffalo Township Police Chief Tim Derringer told Channel 11 that the boys, both 13, were walking home from a local candy store when they were struck by a van going in the same direction.

One of the children was in critical condition. He was airlifted to UPMC Children’s Hospital where he later died.

The other boy suffered minor injuries and was transported to hospital by private means.

It’s not yet known whether speed played a role in the crash, Derringer said. The driver stopped and is cooperating with police.
