Alameda County Sheriff’s dispatcher killed in suspected DUI crash

An Alameda County Sheriff’s Office dispatcher was killed in a crash when a drunken driver struck her car as she drove to work Sunday, authorities said Monday.

Officers responded to the rollover vehicle crash at East 14th Street and 150th Avenue in San Leandro at 11:14 p.m. Sunday and found an unconscious female driver with “serious” injuries. The woman, identified as Antoinette Finau, was taken to a hospital where she later died.

Police said her car was hit by a motorist who was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence. The force of the impact caused Finau’s car to overturn. The driver who hit Finaudi suffered no injuries and was taken to jail, police said.

During a procession Monday morning, Antoinette’s family and several law enforcement agencies escorted her body along Interstate 580 to the Alameda County Coroner’s Office, authorities said.

“We will remember Antoinette as someone who lived her life to the fullest and touched the hearts of those around her,” the sheriff’s office said on social media. “Although her time with us was short (almost three years), Antoinette left her mark on our agency with her sweet nature, her kind heart, her warm smile and her pride in being the voice on the other end of a cry for help. She was a loving mother, a sister, a daughter and a friend to many. We extend our deepest condolences to her family and friends. Rest well, Antoinette. We will miss you.”
