Marques Houston returns with new single “Last Drop”

Marques Houston returns to R&B after a two-year hiatus with new single “Last Drop.”

The 42-year-old artist makes a comeback with his new track from the upcoming album The Best Worst Year Ever. “Last Drop” is a romantic serenade that interpolates Tevin Campbell’s “Can We Talk.”

On the track, Houston sings, “I wanna be the one you call when you’re feeling down / I wanna be the one you can call on, girl, for sure.”

In an interview, Houston shared, “I wanted to go back to my nostalgic roots by paying homage to one of my favorite songs of all time, ‘Can We Talk’ by Tevin Campbell.” He continued, “I love how this song makes me feel and the power it has to take me back to a time of my many crushes as a teenager. I wanted to create a rendition of the song and make it the soundtrack for today’s generation’s favorites.

The father of two also released another single, “Admit It” in April. The afrobeats-flavored track was the first taste of Houston’s upcoming album. On the song the singer shared with Rated R&B: “I’ve been enjoying the fusion of sounds and culture lately. I’ve been in the mix with the whole Afrobeats world and that feeling really stuck with me, what R&B makes people feel. It’s also becoming very popular, so I thought the timing was perfect. So for my comeback single, I wanted to blend the two sounds.

His latest album, ME, arriving in February 2022 after a nine-year hiatus. The following EP, Me: Dark Waterarrived in November.
