CULLMAN, Alabama (WIAT) – A chase that ended in a crash in Cullman Friday morning left one person dead.

According to Chad Whaley of the Cullman County Sheriff’s Office, the CCSO assisted other law enforcement agencies in a chase that began in Hartselle and continued into Cullman County.

Whaley stated that the fleeing vehicle crashed within the city limits of Cullman and struck other vehicles. Cullman County Sheriff Jeremy Kilpatrick confirmed a fatality related to the crash.

Hartselle police reported later Friday that one of their officers spotted the fleeing vehicle they initially attempted to stop that morning. The officer was driving south on Highway 31 near Crescent Drive around 7:35 a.m. when he noticed the vehicle approaching from behind at excessive speeds.
