Panama City woman sentenced to 25 years in prison after attack led to death of her father-in-law

PANAMA CITY, Fla. (WMBB) – A local woman is headed to state prison for manslaughter.

On Friday, Amanda Rae Julian, 33, of Panama City, pleaded no contest to voluntary manslaughter of an elderly person, aggravated assault of a person over 65, felony assault, assault on a police officer and a misdemeanor.

Judge Brantley Clark accepted the plea and found Amanda Julian guilty.

Deputies said the fatal incident occurred on February 19 of last year at Julian’s home in Callaway.

Bay County Sheriff’s officials said Amanda Julian came home drunk. She went into the garage and attacked her husband, Don Julian. She then attacked 85-year-old Jerry Lee Julian. Her father-in-law repeatedly hit and knocked him down, officials added.

Jerry Lee suffered multiple injuries and a serious head wound. Officials said he identified Amanda Julian as the attacker before paramedics took him to the hospital.

According to a press release, the victim succumbed to his injuries the next day.

Judge Clark sentenced Amanda Julian to 25 years in prison.
