Southern Colorado deputy arrested after alleged brawl in California

MURRIETA, Calif. (KRDO) — A Bent County deputy is in jail in California after allegedly getting into a fight with another Bent County deputy.

The Bent County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) reports that Deputy Ryan Sellin and another deputy were in California to extradite an inmate to Colorado.

The Murrieta Police Department (MPD) in California responded to a call to a Marriott Courtyard hotel shortly after midnight on May 22. The call came in for an assault, and when officers arrived, they found two men in a “combat situation.”

According to MPD, a deputy was taken to the hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. Although neither of those involved wanted to press charges, the severity of the injuries compelled police to investigate further. According to MPD, the investigation determined that both of those involved were police officers.

According to MPD, Deputy Sellin was cooperative during his arrest, but was charged with aggravated assault.

Deputy Sellin is currently being held at the Southwest Detention Center on $250,000 bail.

Sheriff Six of the BCSO confirmed that an internal investigation is underway, but could not provide any further details at this time.
