LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A sex offender wanted in the United States who fled to the Philippines is dead, according to the U.S. Marshals Service.

Alan Buitre, 61, was wanted for violating probation. He was originally convicted of possession of child pornography.

In a report entitled “Manhunt Monday” broadcast on May 6, the US Marshals asked the public for help in finding Buitre. He was believed to be in Las Vegas or the Philippines.

Acting U.S. Marshal in Charge Ray Venegas said they received a tip after the story aired that Buitre had died in the Philippines last year and that it was later confirmed that he died of alcohol-related complications.

According to court records, more than 600 images depicting child sexual abuse were found in Buitre’s home. Some of the images were classified as sadistic or masochistic and contained material involving a child under the age of 12, records show.

Buitre was sentenced to five years in prison and life probation. Buitre admitted to viewing adult pornography twice while on probation, which is a violation.

According to the U.S. Marshals, Buitre stopped communicating with his parole officer in 2018.
