An 18-year-old man was arrested Wednesday, May 22, in the investigation into the fatal shooting of a 15-year-old boy in Jurupa Valley, according to a news release from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office.

On Sunday, May 19, at approximately 3:54 p.m., officers responded to a Riverside hospital where a shooting victim was wounded. Despite life-saving efforts, the 15-year-old victim was pronounced dead.

“The victim’s name is not being released due to his age,” the sheriff’s statement said.

Officers interviewed witnesses at the hospital and learned the crime scene was in the 10100 block of Ben Nevis Boulevard in Jurupa Valley, officials said.

Javier Carrillo, 18, of Riverside, was identified by investigators as a suspect in the shooting and was located and taken into custody in Chino on Wednesday, May 22, the news release said.

Carrillo was arrested on suspicion of murder and is being held on $1 million bond, according to arrest records.

“There is no news at this time as the investigation is ongoing,” said Sergeant Deirdre Vickers, a spokeswoman for the sheriff’s office.

Information about the motive and circumstances of the shooting, if known, was not immediately available.
