BOWLING GREEN, Kentucky – A new fire truck and engine design are currently in production for the Bowling Green Fire Department.

The department said Friday that the new models will replace older units and set aside the older models for maintenance of the newer fleet or in case multiple fires require a larger response.

According to the department, the HAAS warning system will be one of the newest features.

This will send real-time digital alerts from a transponder mounted in the cab to nearby motorists using the Waze navigation app, according to the agency. This will give road users with the Waze app a notification on their mobile phone that the emergency vehicle is approaching.

This will give traffic more time to slow down and allow emergency services to take evasive action, according to the department.

Once production of the two vehicles is complete, they will be the only fire trucks currently in the Bowling Green area using this technology, the BGFD explains.

News 40 will continue to provide further updates as they become available.
