Poudre Schools launches investigation into principal Brian Kingsley

As confirmed by the Coloradoan, the Poudre School District Board of Education has hired an outside investigator to determine the nature of the relationship between Superintendent Brian Kingsley and a school district employee.

Several school board members, speaking on condition of anonymity, confirmed they ordered an investigation after discussions about personnel and legal issues arose in one or more board meetings during recent meetings.

The last regularly scheduled school board meeting, which ended with an executive board meeting to discuss these issues, took place on May 14.

The Coloradoan is not disclosing the employee’s name or position at PSD at this time.

While the district will cover the costs of the investigation, contract terms and costs were not immediately available.

The investigation comes at a time when the district is struggling with financial problems.

School district officials, including Kingsley, considered closing up to five neighborhood schools to address declining enrollment, underutilized buildings and related financial constraints, but the district’s school board unanimously ended that process last Monday by a 7-0 vote during a special meeting.

Kingsley remains in his position and denied having an inappropriate relationship in a text message to the Coloradoan on Friday, claiming there had already been an internal human resources investigation that found “absolutely nothing.”

“These baseless rumors are completely unfounded and completely false,” Kingsley said in the text message. “I welcome this investigation because I am confident it will reveal what our internal HR investigation found: absolutely nothing.”

“Our district, like many across the country, is currently grappling with a difficult fiscal situation. Every member of our community has the right to voice their opinion on how I handle this situation and to voice that opinion publicly. I stand by the decision to ensure that female leaders at PSD receive comparable salaries to men who do the same work. And to suggest that this decision was based on anything other than their talent, hard work and merit is outrageous and frankly sexist.

“I am disappointed that members of this community are dragging my family and PSD staff through the mud over a political disagreement. This is so far removed from the values we should model for our students.
