Person dies after firing a gun at a Woodstock home, then causing a car crash during a police chase Friday – Shaw Local

A man who fired a gun in a Woodstock home in the presence of his family and then fled in a car died in a car crash during a police pursuit, Woodstock police said in a press release Friday afternoon.

Police said they were called to the 200 block of Douglas Street near Calhoun Street just before 12:45 a.m. Friday for a domestic dispute in which a firearm was displayed and fired “while several innocent family members were present.” No one was shot or injured in the shooting, according to the news release.

When police arrived, the “identified shooter” fled the scene in a car, according to the news release. An officer attempted to stop the driver, but the driver continued driving south on Route 47, police said.

The driver lost control and crashed at the intersection of Route 47 and Route 176 near Crystal Lake, the release said. The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office, Lakewood Police and Crystal Lake Fire Department responded to the scene and attempted to perform “life-saving measures” on the driver, who did not survive, according to police.

According to police, a firearm seized at the scene of the accident matched the description of the firearm used on Douglas Street.

Police did not identify the person and said the incident is under investigation. The McHenry County Major Investigations Assistance Team has been requested to assist in the investigation, the release said.
