Gaithersburg man charged with sexual abuse of minors

A man was arrested and charged with sexual abuse of a minor on Thursday, May 9, according to a statement from Montgomery County Police.

Police also charged him with showing obscene material to minors.

Damon Junior Cruz, 32, is alleged to have sexually abused a minor between November 2021 and February 2024. Cruz was the victim’s hitting and pitching coach.

Montgomery County Child Protective Services and the police Special Victims Investigation Division (SVID) began investigating on Tuesday, April 30, after a report of sexual abuse of a minor.

Police took Cruz to the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit, where he was released on bail.

Investigators believe there may be other victims who have not reported to the police.
