Two people arrested in case of fatal accident

(Columbia County) Charges have been filed against a rural Portage man involved in a fatal crash last Sunday night that killed a female passenger. The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office took 26-year-old Keegin Neveln into custody at a Lewiston residence Wednesday night. He is charged with hit-and-run causing death and reckless driving causing death. He appeared in court Thursday and was held on $75,000 bail.

Also arrested and charged with harboring/aiding a felon and resisting/obstructing an officer was Kenneth Neveln, 54, of rural Portage. He appeared in court Wednesday and was released on $1,000 bail.

The accident occurred at the intersection of Muskrat Road and Malisch Road in the city of Lewiston. The preliminary investigation shows that alcohol and speed may have played a role in the accident. 21-year-old Kayla Mcclenithan from rural Portage died at the scene.

The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office says the investigation is ongoing and additional arrests are possible. Anyone who helped Keegin Neveln escape and hide will be charged accordingly.
