RTO Kashmir revokes 14 driving licences for various violations – Rising Kashmir

Invoking Section 184, the Regional Transport Officer (RTO) of Kashmir on Friday ordered suspension of at least 14 driving licences for various offences and said the suspension could be lifted only after passing the refresher course of the driving institute and a more stringent test for the driving licence re-examination.

An order issued by the RTO Kashmir, a copy of which is available with the news agency Kashmir News Observer (KNO), said that in exercise of the powers conferred on the RTO Kashmir under Section 19 of the Motor Vehicle Act, 1988 read with Rule 21 of the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989, the driving licences of the defaulters will be cancelled.

Offenses that may result in driving license suspensions include reckless and negligent driving, obstructing ambulances, ignoring route permits, failing to use speed limiters, driving without a helmet and overloading passengers.

Speaking to KNO, the RTO Kashmir stressed that the suspensions would be lifted only after passing the refresher course at the Driving Institute, followed by a more rigorous re-examination for the driving license.

He said the suspension should serve as a deterrent to those who repeatedly violate traffic rules, endangering their lives and the lives of others on the road.

“We will conduct random checks in the coming days and those who violate traffic and motor vehicle laws will be dealt with as per relevant laws,” the RTO said – (KNO)
