Unstable holiday weekend with significant risk of severe weather on Sunday evening

TONIGHT:

This afternoon will be cloudy and warm. Maximum temperatures will be between 21 and 25 degrees. There will be occasional showers and storms here and there, but not everywhere. The risk of severe weather is low. However, there will be heavy downpours in places, which could lead to further flooding.

A flood warning is in effect for portions of Giles, Lawrence, Wayne, Lewis and Perry counties until 3:15 p.m. Be aware of flooding in this area.

Only isolated showers and thunderstorms are expected in the evening.

SATURDAY:

The morning will probably begin with a series of heavy showers and thunderstorms. The clouds will clear and some sunshine will return. It will be hot. Maximum temperature: 30 °C.

There will be isolated showers and thunderstorms on Saturday afternoon. Some of these could be heavy and bring very heavy downpours and sudden gusts of wind.

SUNDAY:

Sunday is a First Alert Weather Day. It will be windy and hot. High: 91. There is a slight chance of rain before dinner. Then, isolated strong to severe thunderstorms should develop north of Nashville and gradually move southeastward. Each of these thunderstorms could quickly become severe and bring hail, damaging wind gusts, downpours, and isolated tornadoes. This group of storms will likely coalesce into a line over time and move across Middle Tennessee Sunday night into Monday morning.

DAY OF MEMORIAL:

There will be scattered showers and thunderstorms Monday as a cold front moves in. The greatest chance of rain will be along and south of I-40 in the afternoon. High: 88.

TUESDAY & AFTER:

On Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday of next week it will be drier and brighter. The humidity will also drop slightly.
