Dundalk man arrested in connection with driving aggression incident in Howard County

JESSUP, MD – Maryland State Police have arrested a man in connection with an alleged road rage incident that occurred in Howard County earlier this month.

The suspect, Jeffery Johnson, 32, of Dundalk, is charged with four counts of first-degree assault, four counts of second-degree assault, use of a firearm during a serious crime of violence and four counts of reckless endangerment. He was arrested and taken to the Baltimore County Detention Center, where he is being held without bail.

On May 14, 2024, shortly before 3:30 p.m., troopers responded to the area of ​​I-95 northbound, north of Route 32, for a report of an assault with a firearm. According to a preliminary investigation, a female victim and her three minor children, whose identities are currently unknown, were traveling northbound on I-95 when a Nissan Altima driven by Johnson attempted to merge in front of their vehicle at a high rate of speed, subsequently causing a crash.

The victim stated that Johnson then stopped the Nissan in traffic, approached her vehicle with a firearm, and then fled in his vehicle. As the victim drove off, Johnson slowed the Nissan so that it was next to her vehicle and pointed the firearm at her again. Johnson then fled the scene. No injuries were reported at the scene.

During their investigation, officers noticed similarities between this incident and an unsolved case from January 2022 in which an Anne Arundel County man named Charles “Charlie” Marks was fatally shot on the same stretch of highway in an apparent incident of road rage.

The Maryland State Police Homicide Unit is continuing its investigation into Marks’ case and is asking anyone with information about the case to call or text 410-645-0855. Metro Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of up to $2,000 for information leading to the arrest of the suspect.

Both investigations remain active and ongoing.
