Weather of the first warning:

  • First weather warning day today with possible severe storms
  • Saturday will be dry and warm
  • Sunday is another first weather warning day with potential for severe storms

Today is a First Alert Weather Day: We are watching for increasing storm potential through the afternoon. The atmosphere is primed for stronger storms, with plenty of instability and moisture. Storms may develop ahead of the main cold front this afternoon, with the front not arriving until late afternoon and evening. The timing of this round is late afternoon to evening, most likely between 5 and 9 p.m. in the St. Louis metro area. Damaging wind and large hail would be the main dangers with any of these rounds of storms, although an isolated tornado cannot be ruled out. Most of the area is under a Level 2/5 severe weather threat, but we are tied to Level 3/5

Heads up! The local NOAA Weather Radio station in St. Louis is experiencing telecommunications issues, meaning you will not receive signal or alerts. We always recommend having multiple ways to receive alerts. The KMOV Weather app is a fantastic resource and will send alerts and updates directly to your phone. The affected areas are marked in red below.

Saturday looks dry and nice! It will be warm and mostly sunny with slightly less humidity than today.

Sunday is another First Alert Weather Day. Thunderstorms are likely in the morning, and could be severe, with hail and strong winds. If a cold front reaches our area in the late afternoon and evening AND the atmosphere regains sufficient storm strength after the morning thunderstorms, then we have the conditions for stronger storms later in the day, including the threat of a tornado. While we still have some questions about this setup, we see the conditions coming together for severe weather potential.

Monday (Remembrance Day) includes a slight chance of rain, but the holidays will be mostly dry, slightly cooler and less humid.
