Man killed, several others injured after accident in Defiance County

DEFIANCE COUNTY, Ohio – One man was killed and several others injured in a crash in Defiance County Thursday afternoon.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, James Bailey, 82, of Defiance, was driving south on Independence Road in Richland Township at about 4:44 p.m. when he failed to yield at a stop sign, turned onto U.S. 24 and was struck by a pickup truck.

He was taken to the hospital by rescue helicopter, where he later died. His passenger, 71-year-old Marcia Bailey, was taken to the hospital by EMS with serious injuries. Her current condition is unknown, according to OSHP.

The three occupants of the pickup truck were treated for minor injuries and released, OSHP said.
