Vandalism at Winnemucca Mountain is being investigated

LAS VEGAS, Nevada (FOX5) — An act of vandalism on Winnemucca Mountain in northern Nevada is being investigated by the Bureau of Land Management.

In a press release Friday, the BLM announced that an investigation had been launched into an act of vandalism that occurred around May 12.

“Volunteers have offered to help with the cleanup and restore visibility to our community. But until the investigation is complete, we cannot remove or disturb the graffiti,” said John Mitchell, Humboldt River’s field director.

In addition to the investigation, the BLM has also mentioned plans to repair the damage “in the quickest and most environmentally friendly manner possible.” Officials note that they want to permanently remove all evidence of the vandalism, but must consider the “current condition of the area and the environmental impacts, if any, that mitigation will have in future seasons and years.”
