6 days after Porsche crash, Ajit Pawar emerges and says he was keeping an eye on Mumbai | News from Pune

Six days after the fatal accident involving a Porsche, Deputy Prime Minister Ajit Pawar addressed the media on Friday and assured that there would be no interference in the matter.

“I am in Pune every week. On May 20, after the Lok Sabha elections in Mumbai were over, I was in Mantralaya (in Mumbai) for the next two days. After the Pune incident, I kept a close eye on it. Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadanvis told me that he was going to Pune and would personally look into the matter. He also held a press conference and answered questions from the media,” Pawar told media persons in Pune after an event.

Pawar tried to justify his absence from Pune for the last six days. “For no reason, the misconception is being spread that the district minister is not concerned about the incident. I do not like to appear before the media frequently… I continue to do my work,” he said.

Pawar said, “The Pune incident is very serious. There should be no interference by political leaders. It is the duty of the Pune police to maintain law and order in the city. Strict action must be taken against those involved in the incident. The police commissioner has been updating me about the incident from time to time. He has also held a press conference and updated you. Today I spoke to the police commissioner.”

Referring to the quick release of the accused on bail, Pawar said, “It is for the judiciary to take a decision on bail… The accused should not have been given bail but after that the bail was cancelled… Strict action has been taken in this matter. There was no political interference… All efforts have been made to maintain transparency. The Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister have kept an eye on the matter today. I have also been closely monitoring the matter from day one,” he said.

Festive offer

Pawar said they have started cracking down on the “illegal bar culture” that is rampant in the city. “I have always been strongly opposed to illegal activities. In such cases, decisive action must be taken. Police and political leaders should behave appropriately. Similarly, municipal officials and customs officials should also behave appropriately.”

The deputy prime minister said that no one will interfere in the matter. “Action will be taken as per the laid down norms. No one will interfere in this matter. The prime minister and the deputy prime minister have already assured this.”

On allegations that his party MP Sunil Tingre had tried to influence the case, Pawar said: “Tingre himself has clarified the matter.”
