PFF Gives Ridiculous Reason Why Buffalo Bills Won’t Make Playoffs in 2024

We all know the Buffalo Bills will look like a different team in 2024…or will they? Of course, they have different names on the roster and Josh Allen won’t have the same receiving core he’s had since the 2020 season.

However, the second half of last season should have been a preview of what the Bills offense could be in 2024 and beyond. After a 5-5 start, the Bills fired offensive coordinator Ken Dorsey and turned to Joe Brady for playmaking duties. Under Brady, the Bills offense took a step forward and remained consistent, helping ultimately the Bills finished 6-1 down the stretch to win the AFC East.

Since then, the Bills let Gabe Davis enter free agency and traded Stefon Diggs to the Houston Texans. They signed Curtis Samuel, Mack Hollins, Marquez Valdes-Scantling and Chase Claypool. During the NFL Draft, Brandon Beane drafted wide receiver Keon Coleman to revamp their wideout room. Although there have been some changes, there is no doubt that the Bills are still in contention for the AFC East. At the same time, not everyone has the same opinion about the bills.

Gordon McGuinness of Pro Football Focus has an article on one of the reasons why every team in the AFC won’t make the playoffs next season. McGuinness said that as far as the Bills are concerned, the reason they won’t make the playoffs is because they need to show they can play high-level football without the presence of Stefon Diggs.

Through the first six weeks of last season, Diggs was playing like one of the best receivers with five games of 100+ receiving yards along with five touchdowns. Then, the offense saw a slight slowdown between Week 7 and Week 10, leading to the decision to fire Ken Dorsey. When Joe Brady was named interim offensive coordinator, there was a new type of offense in Buffalo that involved multiple players in the game plan. As for Diggs’ production, it has dropped significantly. He would only have two games with double-digit targets, but he never had more than 87 receiving yards in a game in the second half of the season.

The Bills proved they didn’t need Diggs to win down the stretch, as they established a running game with James Cook and Ty Johnson, and also involved guys like Khalil Shakir and Dalton Kincaid in the offensive. It would have been a different story if Diggs had played like the true number one receiver he was early in the season, but Buffalo showed they didn’t need Diggs in big moments.

Even though Buffalo will have some doubters going into the season, saying they won’t make the playoffs because Diggs isn’t on the roster is a completely ridiculous reason.
