Woman found dead in house south of Twin Cities, suspect arrested after search, police say

LAKEVILLE, Minn. — Police say a man is in custody after a woman was found dead in a Lakeville home late Thursday night.

Lakeville Police officers responded around 11:11 p.m. to a report that a “significant amount of blood” had been found at a home in the 17000 block of Encina Path.

When officers arrived, they found a woman dead at the scene. A family member who called police was believed not to be involved in the incident.

Shortly after the body was found, police said they identified a suspect and issued a search warrant for the vehicle associated with him.

Ten minutes after the initial call in Lakeville, Rosemount police, responding to a “suspicious person call,” found the suspect vehicle in the 3700 block of 148th Street. The vehicle was empty.

After a brief search of the area, the suspect was found in a backyard and taken into custody at around 11:51 p.m. According to police, he suffered injuries that were “apparently self-inflicted” and was taken to Regions Hospital in St. Paul, where he remains in custody.

The investigation into the alleged murder and subsequent arrest is still in its early stages. The Dakota County Sheriff’s Office and Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension support the Lakeville and Rosemount police.

According to police, there is no known danger to the public in connection with the incident.

Lakeville is located about 25 miles south of Minneapolis.
