Crimean rocket attacked at night

The head of the Russian-annexed Crimean peninsula said a Ukrainian missile attack killed two people near Simferopol, the peninsula’s main administrative center, Reuters reports.

Sergei Aksyonov also wrote on Telegram that a Ukrainian missile hit an empty building near Alushta on the Black Sea coast of the peninsula.

The TASS news agency also quoted the Russian Defense Ministry as saying that air defenses had intercepted three ATACMS missiles over Crimea and the military had destroyed three Ukrainian sea drones heading toward the peninsula.

There is no official comment from Ukraine.

Ukrainian military bloggers and unofficial media reported that numerous targets had been hit across the peninsula.

Krymsky Veter, an online news channel covering Crimea, published a video of a scene describing an explosion and fire in Alushta and said ambulances were on their way to the scene.

News channel RBK-Ukraine reported, without citing a source, that explosions had occurred at three other centers and said the targets could have included coast guard headquarters or intelligence centers.

Russian bloggers on the peninsula said they believed not all incoming missiles had been intercepted.
