Tyson Fury suspended from boxing after defeat to Oleksandr Usyk

It has emerged that Tyson Fury was suspended from boxing immediately after his loss to Oleksandr Usyk in the undisputed heavyweight title fight.

Fury suffered the first defeat of his professional career on Saturday night when Usyk claimed a points victory over the “Gypsy King” in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Fury lost his WBC heavyweight world title to Usyk, who is now the first undisputed heavyweight world champion in more than two decades.

Usyk appeared to break Fury’s nose in the eighth round with a superb punch that left the British fighter shaken.

Fury struggled to recover and was forced to take a standing count in the ninth round after somehow staying on his feet following a barrage of blows from Usyk.

Fury eventually regained his senses and reached the final bell, but lost by a split decision, with two judges scoring in favor of Usyk and one in favor of Fury.

Although he emerged victorious, Usyk was suspended for 14 days by the United Arab Emirates Commission for medical reasons after the fight.

After a post-fight medical examination, he was ruled out of action until June 2. Fury’s promoter Frank Warren announced that the Ukrainian suffered an impacted dental implant during the fight.

As The Sun now reported, Fury was also suspended for medical reasons, but for a shorter period than Usyk.

Fury, who boxed under a Nevada state license, was suspended for a week following his medical, meaning he will be free to fight again starting Saturday.

Meanwhile, it is claimed that the preliminary fights took place “under the auspices of the British Boxing Board of Control”, which allegedly had “no knowledge of Usyk’s short suspension” or the “decision to suspend Fury”, which only came to light on Friday.

Fury has yet to confirm his next move but could trigger a rematch clause, with October being discussed as a possible date for a second fight with Usyk.

In his post-fight press conference, Fury said: “I’ve just come out of the fight, as you can see from my face, I’m a little bit banged up. And he came to the hospital with a broken jaw and he’s banged up too.”

“So we beat the shit out of each other for 12 rounds. I’m going to go home now, have something to eat, have a couple of beers, spend some time with the family, walk the dog and go to the dump.

“And Frank and I will talk about what will happen in the future.”
