Summer heat, mostly dry until the weekend

BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) – Today’s forecast: No significant weather changes are expected today, as we are still under the influence of a high pressure area centered in the south. The partly cloudy sky this morning will become predominantly sunny in the afternoon, with maximum temperatures rising to 35 degrees. No precipitation is expected.

Don’t forget that tonight is the final Live After Five broadcast of the spring series. If you’re heading downtown to see the Michael Foster Project, plan for a very warm but dry evening. Temperatures will start at just over 30 degrees and only drop to just over 25 degrees around 8pm.

Memorial Day Weekend

The summer heat will continue as the high pressure system to the south doesn’t really move. Not only will our afternoons be hot, with highs in the 90s, but the nights and mornings won’t really cool off either, with lows in the 75s. The forecast remains mostly dry through Sunday, with only a slight chance of rain until late Monday (Memorial Day).

Expanded outlook

The chance of rain expected late Monday is tied to a weak cold front approaching from the north. The latest model forecasts show the front struggling to penetrate much further south than our part of the world, so it’s a close call whether we’ll even get a break from the moisture, let alone a significant change in temperature.

Right now, I’m expecting humidity to drop slightly by the middle of next week, but our temperatures to barely change. With the front likely to linger somewhere nearby before dissipating, there’s still a slight chance of rain for most of next week.
