Hazy with some storms ahead of an early Memorial Day WVLT First Alert Weather Day

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) – Today and throughout the weekend, there may continue to be some intermittent rain showers and thunderstorms before a thunderstorm with strong to severe weather develops overnight Sunday into the early morning hours of Monday (WVLT First Alert Weather Day).

Use our WVLT First Alert Weather app for iPhone or Android to stay up to date on the go and between newscasts. We share custom videos and you can have us notify you of the latest conditions and forecast.

WHAT TO EXPECT

The night’s rain showers and thunderstorms are over, leaving us with clouds and fog in the morning. We start the day at around 17 degrees.

Today we have a mix of sun and clouds, with isolated showers and thunderstorms, becoming more scattered in the late afternoon and evening as another line of downpours and thunderstorms develop. That gives us 40 percent cloud cover through tonight. Ahead of these thunderstorms we’ll reach a high of 30 degrees, but it’ll be muggy and feel hotter! We’ll have a southwest wind of 10-15 mph, with gusts around 20 mph.

These isolated rain showers and storms will continue until tonight, with the lowest temperature being 18 degrees.

LOOKING AHEAD

While there will be isolated rain early in the morning, there are signs that there will be isolated showers and thunderstorms on Saturday afternoon. Temperatures will remain at around 29 degrees, with a high of 30 degrees, with a southwest wind of 8 to 16 km/h.

Scattered thunderstorms are possible Sunday afternoon. Some of these may be strong to severe, but the greatest risk for severe weather will be Sunday night into Monday. You should have a way to get warnings and watches during the night. Damaging wind gusts and hail are possible, and a tornado cannot be ruled out. We have a WVLT First Alert Weather Day through Monday morning.

Your First Alert 8-day planner calls for scattered thunderstorms and abating storms through Memorial Day, followed by milder days around 70 degrees and a mostly dry spell.
