EDC Las Vegas participant reports shocking incident of sexual assault

On social media, specifically in a Reddit thread, an EDC Las Vegas attendee reported the shocking incident of sexual assault she experienced during the music festival last weekend.

The main goal of electronic music festivals is to unite people through their shared love of music, yet it is incidents like these that stigmatize our community. And as immoral and cruel acts such as sexual assault continue to occur at major events around the world, it is becoming increasingly clear that more drastic measures must be taken to prevent such incidents at all costs.

An attendee at EDC Las Vegas was sexually harassed last weekend, he reported in a thread on Reddit. Passersby didn’t react until the attendee took matters into his own hands. The attendee was thoroughly enjoying the event and was approached by another raver. Although the initial interaction was within the bounds of normality that occurs between two strangers meeting for the first time, things took a turn for the worse. Since festivals tend to involve close contact due to the large number of people in one place, the situation quickly escalated and became more than that when the attendee felt the stranger’s hand under his vest and his chest was massaged.

The participant immediately confronted the stranger about his behavior and made it very clear that this was completely inappropriate. The stranger then apologized and acted as if nothing bad had happened. The stranger barely reacted to the incident, stayed close by and when he tried to reach the participant again, he took matters into his own hands as the participant used physical violence against the stranger to assert himself and show that he would not tolerate such behavior. This then caught the attention of bystanders and showed that double standards were at play here and people did not react to the initial sexual assault but then became loud when the participant stood up for himself.

A harrowing incident that came to light through the attendee and his story shared on social media. You can relive the entire incident in detail on his Reddit thread here and in return, share with us your own thoughts and the different ways you think music festivals and their organizers can handle such incidents.
