MPs: Man arrested after car accident in Grand Haven

GRAND HAVEN, Mich. (WOOD) – Authorities say a man was arrested following a two-car crash in Grand Haven early Friday morning.

According to the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office, the accident occurred around 12:15 a.m. on southbound US-31 at the intersection with Hayes Street.


According to a news release, a car driven by an 18-year-old Grand Haven man was stopped at a flashing red light and attempting to cross US-31 when it was struck by a southbound vehicle.

The 18-year-old driver and an 18-year-old passenger were trapped in the car, as were the driver of the other vehicle, a 26-year-old man from Twin Lake, and a passenger, a 25-year-old man from Muskegon, the news release said. They were all pulled from their cars.

The 26-year-old man attempted to flee the scene but was arrested after a short foot chase, according to the sheriff’s office.

The injuries were not life-threatening, the press release said.

US-31 southbound was closed for about an hour while authorities investigated and cleared the scene. The road has since reopened.

The crash remains under investigation.
