NATCOM activities remain suspended, says lawmaker

All activities of the proposed National Commission for the Coordination and Control of Small Arms, Ammunition, Light Weapons and Pipeline Vandalism in Nigeria, also known as NATCOM, have been suspended.

In a statement issued in Abuja, the Coordinating Director, Human Resources of the proposed commission, David Olaitan, reiterated that the sponsor of the NATCOM bill passed in the 9th and 10th sessions of the National Assembly, Dr. Baba Mohammed, had warned on several occasions that the public must not engage in illegal activities that constituted a threat to peace in Nigeria as such violations would be punished under federal law.

The statement further urges all those holding valid appointment certificates to be patient during their orientation and training period when President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will magnanimously sign the NATCOM bill and graciously appoint Dr Mohammed as the first Director-General and Chief Executive Officer or Acting Chairman of NATCOM.

“The public is advised not to conduct any financial transaction of any kind with anyone on behalf of NATCOM as the officials of the proposed commission are and will remain law abiding,” the statement added.
