‘You stole the joy’; Family of pregnant mother killed in shooting calls on killer to turn himself in – WHIO TV 7 and WHIO Radio

DAYTON – A pregnant mother and a 16-year-old are dead after a shooting in Dayton.

Investigators said Precious Taste and the teenager were killed by Nicole Cunigan Jr., Taste’s ex-boyfriend and father of at least two of her children.

At the time of her murder, Taste was four months pregnant.

Family and friends gathered at Taste’s home on Thursday to remember and honor her.

They talked about Taste’s kindness while hugging and releasing purple balloons in her memory.

“Precious was a very loving, kind and sweet person. When you met Precious, you felt nothing but love,” said Latricia Murray, the aunt of Taste’s children.

Taste’s big brother Carl Thomas agreed.

“A beautiful soul, a beautiful person, she always gave her all,” he said.

He remembered that Taste threw a birthday party for one of her children and invited the whole neighborhood to her house without asking for anything in return.

Tequila Miller, Taste’s best friend, said Taste confided in her about her relationship with Cunigan.

“I missed so many warning signs, I wish I had paid more attention. She talked to me a lot about the situation,” Miller said.

Miller and Murray both urged people in abusive relationships to talk about it – and urged their loved ones to listen to them.

“Domestic violence is something everyone needs to be aware of,” Miller said.

Relatives also had a message for Taste’s murderer.

“Not only did you take Precious’ life, you took the life of an unborn child and you took the life of another child. And you don’t know what you’ve done to your children … it’s destroying them,” Murray said.

“You stole joy, you stole a beautiful soul,” Thomas said.

Hours after the fatal shooting, police said they found Cunigan’s car in a ditch in Trotwood.

They said he was armed and dangerous and if you saw him, do not approach him and call 911 instead.
