Sean Kingston arrested after raid on Florida mansion – NBC 6 South Florida

Singer Sean Kingston was arrested in California on fraud and theft charges after authorities raided his South Florida mansion and arrested his mother on Thursday.

The Broward County Sheriff’s Office announced in a news release Thursday evening that Kingston, 34, was arrested in Fort Irwin, California, on a BSO warrant for “numerous fraud and theft offenses.” He will be booked into jail in San Bernardino, California.

Kingston’s mother, 61-year-old Janice Turner, was taken into custody earlier in the day after Davie Police officers and SWAT members were seen executing a search warrant at the massive mansion the singer rents on Southwest 178th Avenue.

Turner also faces multiple counts of fraud and theft. She is being held at Broward Main Jail on $160,000 bail.

Aerial footage from Helicopter 6 showed Turner being handcuffed and placed in the back of a BSO cruiser.

One person was handcuffed and placed in a Broward County sheriff’s vehicle as a large police force rushed to the home in Southwest Ranches.

According to a lawyer, the raid is related to a lawsuit he filed against Kingston for allegedly not paying for items he purchased, including a 232-inch television in front of which Kingston was pictured posing.

“He likes to wear bling, he likes to show off, he’s a showman,” said attorney Dennis Card. “My client has a $150,000 television sound system in there, about a million dollars worth of watches, and an $80,000 custom bed that was ordered. This is organized systematic fraud.”

Kingston, 34, has had some major hits, including his 2007 debut single “Beautiful Girls.” He has previously collaborated with stars such as Justin Bieber and Soulja Boy.

“He basically has a script, he says he’s working with Justin Bieber and he’s obviously putting on a big show here. This is a rental property, he doesn’t own it, and he lures people with his fame to post things without him paying for them, and then he just never pays,” Card said.

Thursday’s raid revealed a number of luxury cars parked outside the 1,500-square-foot, seven-bedroom mansion, which records show was last sold in 2021 for $2.25 million.

“He is 100 percent a fraudster, he is currently on probation for theft and has prison sentences against him for obtaining over a million dollars worth of watches without paying for them,” Card said. “This is just a recurring pattern for Sean.”

Card said the singer’s mother was involved in Kingston’s alleged actions.

“She is complicit, she knows what is going on,” he said.

NBC6 attempted to reach an attorney for Kingston.

Kingston, born Kisean Anderson, posted on Instagram on Thursday after news of the raid broke.

“People love negative energy! I’m fine and so is my mom! … My lawyers are taking care of everything right now,” the post said.

Turner has an Instagram page called “Mama Kingston Kitchen,” where she sells her own brand of sauces and features her famous son.

Federal court records show that in January 2006, Turner pleaded guilty to four counts of submitting false loan applications and one count of bank fraud involving $132,000 in stolen funds that she was ordered to repay. She was sentenced to 16 months in prison, followed by five years of probation.

Kingston suffered serious injuries in May 2011 when the watercraft he was traveling in struck the bridge connecting Palm Island to the MacArthur Causeway.
