Minneapolis mother and her two sons in hospital after dog attack

Minneapolis mother and her two sons in hospital after dog attack

A mother and her two young children are in hospital after being attacked by their neighbor’s dogs.

Minneapolis police told 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS they are assisting with the investigation. Neighbors say the attack happened Wednesday night along Hall Curve and Harry Davis Lane in north Minneapolis.

The victims’ family said the mother, Angel, and her two sons, 8-year-old Markell and 3-year-old Junior, were seriously injured and still in the hospital.

Minneapolis Animal Care and Control said the mother’s injuries were potentially life-threatening, but the two children are expected to survive.

“We saw a neighbor waving his arms in the air, yelling, ‘Call an ambulance, call an ambulance,'” said Callie Murphy, a neighbor.

Murphy and her boyfriend saw the horrific scene.

“We ran to the back and the mother was sitting on the floor covered in blood with her youngest child on her lap,” she said.

“It was pretty bad, the dog tore his forearm down to the bone,” added DJ Smith.

Smith returned home to see the consequences of the situation.

“It’s really sad and unfortunate. I went to bed last night and said a quick prayer for the family and the children because no one should ever have to go through something like this,” Smith said.

Minneapolis Animal Control responded and said it took two dogs from the home while emergency services took the mother and her children to the hospital. The dog’s owner also cooperated, authorities said.

However, some neighbors say they have questions because they say the police did not show up.

“It wasn’t just a minor incident. It was quite serious, and it was a little concerning that the police didn’t come to investigate further,” Murphy said.

Minneapolis police confirmed the attack but said animal control was the lead agency and the police department was playing a supporting role. Questions remain about how it happened and whether anyone will be held accountable.

“We’ve had problems with these homeowners and their dogs before,” Smith said.

“I just hope they’re all OK,” Murphy added.

KSTP tried to speak to the dog’s owner to get his side of the story, but someone at the house said they wouldn’t talk.
