Live news on the Israeli war on Gaza: At least 60 Palestinians killed in attacks | News on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict

A Pentagon spokesman said the amount of food that has been distributed or is currently being distributed is 506 tons since the pier opened about a week ago today.

According to the Pentagon, that is enough to feed “tens of thousands for a month.”

But compared to the suffering in the Gaza Strip, this is just a drop in the ocean and far from the amount of food that once came into Gaza across the land borders – and this at a time when suffering and extreme hunger are becoming ever greater.

Since the pier was opened, the first few days have been without any notable success. The food distribution was so uncertain that the World Food Programme suspended its work for two days.

Israel has been asked to help more to ensure that the food is delivered safely. Israel has apparently responded, and there are apparently alternative routes over land for the trucks that bring the food from the pier to the warehouse.

And this was apparently somewhat successful, because 27 trucks were able to supply the camp with food.

That is far from the amount that the Pentagon had expected. 90 trucks, it was initially said, and up to 150 trucks a day from this pier alone.

They say the number of trucks will hopefully increase significantly in the coming weeks.
