Florida International University police chief placed on leave – NBC 6 South Florida

The police chief of Florida International University has been placed on leave, the administration announced Thursday.

In a statement, FIU officials said Chief Alexander Casas was on leave and Maj. James Mesidor was appointed acting chief.

The reason for Casas’ vacation is unclear. The statement said the FIU does not comment on personal matters.

According to his LinkedIn profile, Casas has been FIU police chief since 2011 after serving more than 21 years with the Miami-Dade Police Department.
