A Louisiana-based Habaneros Mexican restaurant will open in Midtown’s Spring Quarter next summer.

The restaurant will join previously announced Japanese restaurants Sozou and Omakase by Ito and a yet-to-be-named restaurant from Indigo Road Hospitality founder Steve Palmer in the emerging Spring Street development.

Located in the 370-unit Sora residential tower, Habaneros will serve a Mexico City-inspired menu featuring dishes like birria, octopus and lengua tacos, flauta flights and asado meat platters. In addition to a large patio, the restaurant will feature an indoor-outdoor bar offering its popular margaritas.

“I saw Midtown become a well-developed center for businesses, residences and restaurants, and I knew we would one day bring Habaneros here,” owner and former Atlanta resident Omar Lugo said in a prepared press release. “We are proud to change the way Americans view Mexican food while combining fine dining at a great price.”

Spring Quarter is backed by Atlanta real estate company Portman Holdings. Plans call for the redevelopment of an entire city block to include the Sora Residential Tower, an office tower, and the preservation and renovation of the historic HM Patterson House and Gardens. The 24,000-square-foot former mortuary will become Palmer’s new restaurant, offering food and beverage options all day and night.

Chef Fuyuhiko Ito’s Japanese restaurant Sozou will occupy a space on the ground floor of Sora. The restaurant will serve a variety of Japanese dishes and will offer a robata grill and sushi counter. Ito will also open Omakase by Ito on the eighth floor as a private omakase dining experience.
