A Ponca resident was killed and a passenger injured in a vehicle accident Thursday morning

PONCA CITY – Officers from the Oklahoma Highway Patrol and Kay County Sheriff’s Dept. responded to a car accident in Kay County early this morning.

David Wayne Taylor, 48, was driving a 2005 Dodge Dakota west on Hubbard Road when he lost control of the vehicle, veered off the road to the right, struck a ditch and then a tree. A passenger and Taylor were both ejected from the vehicle.

Taylor was taken to a local hospital where he died as a result of the crash, and the passenger, a 15-year-old female, was flown to Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, Kansas, where she is in good condition with head and arm injuries.

The car accident occurred just before 5 a.m. at the intersection of Prentice Road and Hubbard Rd.

The police reports state that the cause of the accident was excessive speed for the road conditions.

According to the report, the seat belts were not fastened.
