“My thoughts are with the families who lost loved ones as a result of the attacks,” she said, adding that as a result of the “horrific” attacks, thousands of civilians, including some elderly people and people with disabilities, were forced to flee and ” leaving their entire lives behind.”

Support for displaced people

UN and humanitarian partners are assisting evacuees from remote villages in Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second-largest city near the Russian border.

The UN children’s agency UNICEF’s top official in Ukraine, Munir Mammadzade, told UN News on Wednesday that “every single relocation or displacement is a lifelong trauma for these children.”

“They have already been traumatized since the escalation of the war. The frontline areas are regularly attacked and shelled. They are already suffering from psychological problems.”
