A predator who sexually abused a young girl has been jailed after being hunted down using forensic evidence

A sex offender who sexually abused a young girl has been jailed after detectives tracked him down using forensic evidence.

A court has heard that 20-year-old Ahmed Deq Mohamed attacked a girl under the age of 13.

He was arrested within five days of his crime after his DNA was linked to the June 2023 attack.

Mohamed, from south-east London, was sentenced to four years and six months in prison by Inner London Crown Court on Wednesday.

He has already been found guilty of sexual assault on a child under 13 by penetration following a trial in the same court.

Detective Constable Oliver Colville, who led the investigation, said: “I would like to commend the victim for initially coming forward to police and reporting this abhorrent behaviour from Mohamed. The compelling video report she provided complemented the forensic evidence we had and was enough to convict Mohamed.

“Both the victim and his family have been cared for and supported by specialists throughout the process and the victim will continue to receive support from officers following today’s sentencing.

“Mohamed now faces a significant prison sentence, which shows we take each case extremely seriously. I hope this encourages anyone who has been a victim of sexual assault to come forward and talk to us.”

Mohamed was sentenced to four years and six months in prison, including 12 months on license, after appearing at Inner London Crown Court on May 22. He had previously been found guilty of sexual assault of a child under 13 by penetration following a trial in the same court.

Mohamed was found guilty on Friday 16 February following a trial at Inner London Crown Court.

An order to prevent sexual violence will now be issued against him.
