'Imprisoned for life': Man who raped and impregnated his minor stepdaughter in Rajasthan

A man has been sentenced to life imprisonment by a POCSO court in Baran for continuously raping his 13-year-old stepdaughter in his house. After the death of her mother in March 2022, the girl’s stepfather started raping and sexually exploiting her.

Kota: A man was convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment. POCSO A lawyer in Baran alleged that he continuously raped his 13-year-old stepdaughter in his house, a lawyer said on Wednesday. On Tuesday, the court of special judge Sonia Beniwal also imposed a penalty of ₹2 lakh for the rape that led to the pregnancy of the minor girl, said Harinarayan Singh, a public prosecutor at POCSO Court-2.

The girl’s biological father died when she was very young and her mother then entered into a marriage-like relationship with Kedar Singh, the prosecutor said. The victim, her mother and her mother’s brother then started living with Singh, he added.

After the mother’s death in March 2022, the girl’s stepfather began raping and sexually exploiting her, the lawyer said.

The three-month pregnant girl approached the Chhabra police station along with her maternal aunt and uncle on February 4, 2023. She had filed a complaint against Kedar Singh, he said.

Police have registered a case under Section 376 (rape) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act. They arrested Kedar Singh after initial investigation, the lawyer said.

On March 13, 2023, the police filed a charge sheet against the accused in the POCSO court.

A DNA report matched the fetus in the underage girl’s womb to that of the defendant. The report was an important document for the court and included the recorded statements of 15 witnesses and 38 documents during the trial, the prosecutor said.
