Teenager charged in connection with shooting on Tuesday evening

A juvenile is charged in connection with a shooting. On Tuesday (May 21), Statesville Police responded to a call regarding the shooting of a person in the 600 block of Crescent Lane at approximately 9:45 p.m.

Upon arrival, officers found a 13-year-old juvenile with a gunshot wound to the stomach. Medical attention was received immediately on scene and the victim was transported to Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center for further treatment.

As part of the investigation, officers were able to identify a suspect, a 16-year-old teenager. A search warrant was executed at the suspect’s residence and he was located and taken into custody without further incident. The Department of Juvenile Justice was contacted and issued a secure custody order for attempted murder.

The victim was last reported to be in stable condition. The Statesville Police Department’s Violent Crimes Unit is leading the investigation, which is ongoing. Anyone with information about this case is asked to contact Statesville Police at 704-878-3406.
