Mayor Adams’ office responds to FBI investigation

Mayor Eric Adams and his team responded to reports that one of his former employees was cooperating with the FBI in an investigation into his campaign finances.

According to published reports, Rana Abbasova revealed information about Turkey’s involvement in financing Adams’ 2021 election campaign.

“It has been almost seven months since Ms. Abbasova began speaking to authorities after we proactively reported certain behaviors,” said Lisa Zornberger, senior adviser to the mayor and city hall. “Since then, not a single charge has been filed.”

Abbasova’s house was raided by the FBI in November.

The mayor’s office said she is currently on unpaid leave from her position in Adams’ Office of International Affairs.

Adams insists he committed no crimes.
