Charlie Colin, founding member of the American pop-rock band Train, has died at the age of 58.

His mother confirmed the tragic news, saying that the Drops of Jupiter star “slipped and fell in the shower,” according to TMZ.

The incident is said to have occurred when Colin – a former bassist in the band – was house-sitting for a friend in Belgium. It is currently unclear when exactly he died.

His mother said Charlie was only found when his friends returned from their trip about five days ago.

Colin reportedly had to leave the successful group in 2003 due to drug problems.

Lead singer Pat Monahan said at the time: “Charlie is an incredible bass player, but he was in a lot of pain and the way he dealt with it was very painful for everyone else around him.”

Monahan is said to have then called a band meeting to decide between him and Colin.

“They were not happy with the choice.” “They made it very clear that I had put them in a very difficult position,” he said at the time.

The ultimatum came after Colin was “a wreck” during a live performance in Oregon, according to Monahan.

Speaking about his departure during an appearance at Delphine’s Circle last year, Colin said: “There were a lot of things that led to me leaving, but it really grew out of it.”

“We never took a break. For our second and third records, we drove our tour bus into the parking lot of the recording studio. In Philadelphia, we recorded our album and a half… We just never stopped. It’s one of those things where you feel like it’s too good to be true. Most bands have a lifespan of a few years.”

However, Colin’s time as a musician was not over yet, as he later joined forces with fellow Train member Rob Hotchkiss to form the band Painbirds.

The artist also founded the band The Side Deal in 2017. The group included Sugar Ray musician Stan Frazier and Joel and Scott Owen of The PawnShop Kings.

He also played with famous rock bands Puddle of Mudd and Slipknot.

“When I left Train, I went out because my ego and my identity was on the line and I was thinking about it too much,” he recalled on the Dan Clark podcast in 2022. “I went out and played with all these hard rockers .” Bands. I was on tour with Slipknot. You can imagine the guys wearing masks and stuff. “These are the hardest rock bands in the world.”

Colin had recently moved to Brussels, where he taught a music masterclass at a conservatory and made music for a film.

He also appeared to be working as an artist in Belgium.
