Kyle Tucker joined the Houston Astros record books in victory over the Angels

The Houston Astros continued their hot streak Tuesday night by beating the Los Angeles Angels 6-5. Now winning 10 of their last 13 games, the Astros are just five games back in the American League West.

Although the start to the season hasn’t been ideal, they have been playing better recently, putting themselves in a position to contend in the division. Doing everything he can to stay afloat, left-handed slugger Kyle Tucker has been better than anyone.

Tucker, 27, is slashing .293/.425/.649. His OBP and SLG lead the league, proving why he is considered one of the best hitters in the game.

Winning by one run Tuesday night, Tucker was a big reason for the victory, hitting two more home runs. Tucker’s second home run was his 17th of the season. He currently has the most in Major League Baseball and will go down in Houston history because of it.

According to Brian McTaggart of MLB.com, his 17 homers tie a franchise record for the most in the franchise’s first 49 games. This is only the third time this has happened, as George Springer did in 2019 and Morgan Ensberg in 2006.

Considering the Florida native’s performance over the course of his career, it’s no surprise to see him playing the way he is. If he can maintain this pace, he will put himself in a great position to win the Most Valuable Player award.

Nearly 50 games into the season, the two-time All-Star appears destined to earn his third All-Star title, which would make it three straight seasons for him to earn the honor.

More importantly, the Astros won another game. They will have a golden opportunity to regain some ground in the division over the next week when they face the Oakland Athletics and Seattle Mariners in back-to-back series starting Friday.
