Immigrant indicted by grand jury

HINGHAM – Charges have been filed against the Haitian migrant accused of raping a 15-year-old girl at a Rockland hotel in March, Plymouth County District Attorney Tim Cruz’s office announced.

According to the DA’s office, a grand jury on Tuesday, May 21, indicted Corey B. Alvarez, 26, on charges of aggravated rape of a child 10 years apart in age and forcible rape.

The prosecution moves the case from Plymouth District Court to Plymouth Superior Court, where more serious cases will be heard and the defendants could face longer prison sentences if convicted.

Alvarez has remained held without bail since his arrest and subsequent dangerousness hearing on March 22. He has pleaded not guilty.

Cruz’s office said Alvarez will be arraigned in Plymouth Superior Court at a later date.

What Alvarez is accused of

Alvarez was arrested by Rockland police on March 13 after she was called to the Comfort Inn at 850 Hingham St. on a sexual assault report. The hotel is part of a government program to house migrant families, and both Alvarez and the 15-year-old girl who accused him of the attack had stayed there, police said.
