Track the summer heat for the rest of the week

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WSFA) – Summery weather patterns will continue through the rest of the week and into the holiday weekend, as above-average temperatures get even hotter with the start of Memorial Day weekend. Afternoon highs will rise into the upper 80s to lower 90s each day through at least next Tuesday, with mild overnight lows in the 60s and 70s.

More heat is coming on Wednesday! Outside temperatures will be in the upper 60s this morning with nice skies. Highs will climb into the upper 80s to lower 90s this afternoon with a mix of sun and clouds. Winds will be southerly at around 5 to 10 mph during the day, becoming light to calm tonight. A few more clouds are expected overnight, with lows either side of 70 degrees.

Thursday will probably be a copy of today. Sun and clouds are expected with maximum temperatures around 32 degrees. Low temperatures will be mild, between 15 and 21 degrees, with a few clouds. Sudden showers or storms are possible again, but most of the time it will remain dry and hot.

Friday and Saturday… The heat continues to increase. High temperatures will rise again to around 90 degrees under partly to mostly sunny skies. Scattered rain and storms will occur slightly more frequently at the end of the week and beginning of the weekend. Lows will again be in the 70s, with isolated showers in the area.

The summer preview continues through Sunday. Highs will rise into the upper 80s to lower 90s under mostly to partly sunny skies. A scattered shower is possible again during the hottest part of the day. Pretty typical of what we see during a typical summer pattern.

Currently, Memorial Day and early next week should provide the best coverage for rain and a few thunderstorms. A developing system will move into the area, giving way to isolated showers and storms. The schedule for Monday is still being adjusted as we are still about a week away. The heat continues into next week, with highs in the upper 80s to lower 90s and lows in the 60s and 70s.

Long term, there are some signs of some *less hot* weather on the 8-10 day horizon; we’ll see if that actually happens. In the short term, we’ll continue to keep a close eye on the chance of rain for the holiday weekend, as many people will have outdoor plans as we approach the end of the month and head into June.
