The condition of the victim of a canal attack in Venice takes a tragic turn

CD 11 Councilmember Traci Park releases statement

On Monday afternoon, the devastating news emerged that one of the two women who were brutally attacked and sexually assaulted in the canals of Venice on April 6th has been declared brain dead. Fox 11 News reporter Matthew Seedorff confirmed this in a post on his social media profile on Twitter.

He said: “Breaking: The second victim of last month’s violent attacks on the Venice canals has been declared brain dead. A close family friend told me that the woman was an organ donor and was currently on life support. The other victim was in and out of the hospital.”

The name of the second victim has not yet been released. We will update the story as it develops. We reported on the arrest of suspect Anthony Francisco Jones on April 15 and the indictment by the Los Angeles County district attorney the next day.
CD 11 City Council member Traci Park released a statement via email saying, “I am devastated to receive this news about the victim of the horrific attack on the Venice canals.” My prayers are at this moment of loss with her family and I extend my condolences on behalf of the entire Venice and Westside communities. While nothing can undo this terrible tragedy, I hope the family can find comfort knowing that the perpetrator of this crime has been arrested and justice will be served.”
