Building heat and humidity through Memorial Day weekend

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – We’re giving you the first warning of increasing humidity and temperatures through Memorial Day weekend.

TODAY

Similar to other mornings this week, there may be some patchy fog in some spots early in the day. Where you normally see a few hot spots, you’ll likely see some areas of fog this morning. Any fog that may be present should quickly clear the area after sunrise this morning.

Lots of sunshine today, the maximum temperatures will be below 27 degrees again this afternoon.
There will be plenty of sunshine today and highs will be back in the low 80s this afternoon.(WMBF)

As we travel throughout the day, humidity begins to build up in the area again. Temperatures will rise to near normal today both on the beaches and inland. Even if it is not the warmest day, it is the change in the southerly winds that will create a summery phase for the rest of the week. There is no rain today and the sky will remain partly cloudy for any outdoor plans.

The highs today will rise to below 27 degrees, inland temperatures will be between 27 and 30 degrees.
Highs will climb into the lower 80s today, with mid to upper 80s inland today.(WMBF)

BUILD HEAT

The warmer weather will continue through the end of the week as a southerly wind continues to bring in moisture and warmer temperatures. As the work week draws to a close, high temperatures on beaches will climb into the lower to mid 80s. As you move inland, temperatures begin to flirt with the 90° mark.

Each day will be a little warmer than the last.

There is enough moisture to push a light shower Thursday evening, but we will keep the chance of rain to a minimum. We will bring back the afternoon showers and storms starting Friday afternoon and continuing them into next weekend.

MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND

Memorial Day is usually our introduction to summer here in the Grand Strand. If we look at the heat index, we will see temperatures feel like they will climb into the low to mid 90s by the weekend. As you move inland, the heat index will approach the mid to upper 90s for all Memorial Day weekend plans.

If you’re planning on going to the beach or barbecuing this weekend, make sure you’ve downloaded the First Alert Weather app! We are maintaining pop-up storm chances through Memorial Day, with the best chances in the afternoon hours.
