Ozone warning for E. Mass. Wednesday

Due to elevated ozone levels expected in our area tomorrow, the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (MassDEP) has issued an air quality advisory effective from 11 a.m. Wednesday until 11 p.m. May 22, 2024, for seven counties across Massachusetts. Ozone levels are expected to impact air quality in eastern Hampden and Hampshire counties, as well as Worcester, Middlesex, Norfolk, Suffolk and Essex counties tomorrow. Air quality is expected to be unhealthy for vulnerable groups. Sensitive groups include people with heart or lung diseases such as asthma, older adults, children, teenagers and people who spend a lot of time outdoors. People with lung or heart disease are at higher risk from air pollution.

MassDEP advises people in sensitive groups to reduce prolonged or strenuous outdoor exertion, take more breaks, engage in less intense activities, follow asthma action plans and have medications on hand for quick relief. Watch for symptoms such as coughing or shortness of breath.

Further details, including forecasts and real-time data, are available on MassDEP’s MassAir Online website.

WHEN: Valid from Wednesday, May 22, 2024, 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.
