Orioles-Cardinals suspended due to severe weather

ST. LOUIS – A pitchers’ duel between right-handers Kyle Bradish and Lance Lynn ended in a no-decision Tuesday night at Busch Stadium, where the game between the Orioles and Cardinals was suspended in the middle of the sixth inning with the score tied at 1-1 because of severe weather in the area .

The competition continues Wednesday at 11:15 a.m. CT/12:15 p.m. ET. The regular series finale begins 30 minutes after the conclusion of the first game.

Fans with tickets to Wednesday’s game will be able to attend both games. Check-in is scheduled for 10:45 a.m. CT. Those who had tickets for Tuesday’s contest will receive an e-voucher for a future game, which will arrive next week.

Lynn entered Tuesday 0-2 with a 7.36 ERA in three starts in May, but he had one of his best starts of the season against the Orioles. The 37-year-old right-hander allowed just one unearned run over six innings, while Bradish allowed one run over five frames.

“He filled the zone with a fastball, cutter and sinker and then landed that curveball eight out of nine times,” Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol said of Lynn. “Overall, he did a really good job of giving us a chance.”

Nolan Gorman gave St. Louis a 1-0 lead with a two-out RBI double in the second inning, then Baltimore’s Jorge Mateo tied the game with a two-out RBI double in the fifth inning.

Gorman’s error on a Kyle Stowers grounder with two outs in the fifth inning extended the inning and Baltimore made the Cardinals pay for that error.

St. Louis won the series opener on Monday night with a 6-3 victory over the O’s.

It was not immediately known who the first pitchers would be to take the mound for the resumption of suspended play, but the bullpens were expected to be rested and no pitching changes were made Tuesday.

The series finale will feature a matchup between Orioles left-hander John Means and Cardinals right-hander Kyle Gibson, who went 15-9 with a 4.73 ERA in 33 starts for Baltimore in 2023.
